Outdoor Research

Outdoor Research, based in Seattle, has been a leading provider of authentic mountaineering apparel since 1980. This brand is driven by a focus on functionality and durability, inspired by the experiences of numerous outdoor athletes. Outdoor Research offers technologically innovative clothing, headwear, gloves, gaiters, dry sacks, compression sacks, stuff sacks, and bivouac systems. Their product range provides weather protection, insulation, and versatility necessary for exploring remote backcountry, high peaks, and steep cliffs. Outdoor Research is dedicated to supporting outstanding organizations in environmental conservation, access to terrain, and education.

The success story began with the founder and mountaineer, Ron Gregg, who witnessed his friend and climbing partner suffering frostbite due to inadequate gaiters, barely surviving the incident. In response, Gregg worked on finding a solution to avoid such cases in the future, leading to the development of the X-Gaiter, which snugly fits various types of footwear.

Tragically, Gregg lost his life in an avalanche accident while testing his products. In 2003, Dan Nordstrom assumed leadership of the company. Today, 31 years after its founding, Outdoor Research remains on course, continuously developing its products. Nordstrom exemplifies the spirit of the brand, sharing a deep passion for the mountains and nature. He combines this passion and environmental responsibility with business expertise, honoring the vision of the company’s founder.

Initially involved in various roles within the family business Nordstrom, Dan Nordstrom later founded the e-commerce company Nordstrom.com in the 1990s. With this experience, Nordstrom understands what a brand needs and firmly believes that “Outdoor Research creates the best products for challenging adventures.”

Each season introduces new innovative products, characterized by intelligent materials and features such as Gore-Tex Pro. Outdoor Research strives to create a distinctive aesthetic. The brand’s expansion is not limited to America, as it has now gained a foothold in Japan and Europe.

Outdoor Research takes social responsibility seriously, supporting non-profit organizations and mountaineering associations, while also prioritizing fair working conditions and environmental protection.
